Ministry to reduce international calling rates for landline phones

Wednesday, December 7, 2016

Ministry of Communications has issued a decision for a comprehensive revision of tariffs of international calling through fixed landline phones from Kuwait to about 247 countries and cities. The decision to reduce the rates by more than 15 percent will come into effect on Jan 2, 2017.

Undersecretary of Ministry of Communications Eng. Hamed Al-Qattan said in a press statement on Tuesday that the State Minister for Housing Affairs and acting Minister of Communications Yasser Abul has approved decision No. 373/ 2016 with regards to charges on international calling. Eng Al-Qattan explained that the decision was issued in response to the observations of the State Audit Bureau in 2014/2015 report which called for review of Decision No. 505/2008 with regards to local levy on international calling, in order to increase demand for international calling through land lines in Kuwait so that it matches the prevalent market prices. However, he stressed that the decision excludes Arab and GCC countries based on a study submitted by the Assistant Undersecretary for Financial Affairs
