The 42nd Annual Sports Day of the Indian Community School Kuwait (ICSK), was held on Friday, 18th November, 2016 at Khaifan Stadium, Kuwait with great pomp and fervor. Mr.Shubashis Goldar, Deputy Chief of Mission and Chief Public Information Officer, of the Indian Embassy was the Chief Guest of the event and Mr.Ganghadhar Shirsath, Principal and Sports Coordinator presided over the function.
The presence of Mr. Vinukumar Nair, Hon. V. Chairman, Mr. Amar Mohammed, Hon. Secretary, Mr. Agnello Fernandes, Hon. Jt. Secretary, all the branch Principals, Vice Principals and the other invited distinguished personalities of the Indian diaspora in Kuwait added to the grandeur of the event. The sports day is the culmination of the athletic events which are conducted house-wise earlier in the four branches of the school.
The programme began with the recitation of the verses from the Holy Quran followed by the National Anthems of both Kuwait and India. Dr. V. Binumon, Principal & Senior Administrator welcomed the august gathering .After the school flag was hoisted, the best athletes of the ICSK took turns to carry the torch to light the sports flame. This was followed by the march - past of the four Houses - Shanti, Seva, Sahyog and Santhosh.
Mr. Vinukumar Nair, Hon. Vice Chairman, in his presidential address, lauded the success of the school in the field of sports and games. He referred to the various accolades and medals of appreciation acquired by the ICSK Students. He also congratulated the grit, hard work and determination of the Physical Education Teachers in leading the ICSK team to victory. The Chief Guest in his inaugural address exhorted the students to acknowledge and appreciate their competitors. He encouraged all the participants to exhibit true sportsman spirit as apart from commemorating victories, sports meets also aim at imparting lessons on fairness, integrity and camaraderie to children. The Chief Guest then declared the annual sports meet open amidst thunderous applause by releasing balloons in the air.
A mesmerizing band display by the famous ICSK Band that followed, captivated all the hearts present at the event. The athletic events were interspersed with the spectacular drill displays by all the four branches which added colour to this momentous occasion. The Chief Guest, the Members of the Board and the Principals gave away trophies to the CBSE Kuwait Cluster champions and other sports event winners of all the branch schools.
The event concluded as the School flag was lowered and the meet was declared closed by Mr. Amar Mohmmed, Hon. Secretary which brought an end to a memorable day. The 42nd Sports day of ICSK Senior was brought to a close with the words of gratitude by Mrs. Sherly Dennis, Principal -in –charge of ICSK Junior, to all present, for the efforts rendered in making this event a grand success.
