The Media Brain behind the Mythical Drama

The huge audience gathered at Kannur Maholsavam, the 11th anniversary celebration by Friends of Kannur Kuwait Expat’s Association (FOKE), witnessed a different and unique Drama – Kadangot Makkam. The effect was such that it would rather be mentioned as a 3D light and sound show. Kadangot Makkam is the first drama in Kuwait which was performed on a 24 meters long stage with three different platforms consisting of totally different sets side by side giving a three dimensional view. The myth behind the origin of Kadangot Makkam Theyyam was portrayed through the powerful acting of the talented artists with the support of light and sound effects. The direction of the drama was commendable where the director managed to conquer the emotions of the viewers as the artists on the stage gave life to the characters of Kadangot Tharavadu of Payyannur, Kerala. The viewers of the drama were filled with devotion and were taken back to their homeland finally when the Kadangot Makkam Theyyam appeared on the stage. It was equally enjoyed by all category of people gathered around. While it was a devotional and nostalgic treat for the elder crowd whose younger days were centered around traditions related to Theyyam, it was totally a new experience for the new generation who are brought up here away from the traditions of North Kerala. The little eyes filled with surprises says it all.

An art form like this would not happen in fortnight. True dedication of a talented team made this drama a grand success. The master brain behind this project was I.V Sunesh Vengara, the director of the drama. Script Writer Dilip Naderi and Art Director Rajeev also played an inevitable role in this drama. The guidance and supervision by Suresh Tholambra and Chandramohan was an added value for the drama. Artists on the stage also put in their efforts in making this drama a reality.

I.V Sunesh, an artist by himself, is more popularly known for his contributions in the field of media. Many noticeable programs were directed and hosted by I.V Sunesh during his stint with Jeevan TV from 2009 till 2011. His Public Poll Road Show which used to be telecast every Friday in Jeevan TV is still fresh among Keralites. This program used to give opportunity for Keralites living in Kuwait to mark their opinion on the current issues occurring in Kerala. I.V Sunesh is still active as a media professional. His skills in drama directions attained public attention at the Drama festival by KSNA (Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy) Kuwait Chapter and were well appreciated by the judges as well. He is an active member of Indian associations such as Friends of Kannur Kuwait Expat’s Association (FOKE), Saradhi etc. He has directed and organized various cultural programs for their annual events. He has supported many associations for event management and for preparing their team for competitions and events. Apart from these, I.V Sunesh marked his presence as a judge at various stages for cultural performances.

Jisha is working with Independent Petroleum Group as Economic Analyst. She is a Post Graduate in Anthropology and has published research articles in this field. During her stint as a Research Assistant at College of Sociology, Kuwait University, Jisha started contributing to various Anthropological and Sociological Journals, an exercise she continues to date. On a lighter perspective, she writes short stories, poems and plays in Malayalam and English. Her hobbies and interests includes pencil drawings and craft works.
