Kuwait plans to impose taxes on expats’ remittances

Thursday, November 17, 2016

The government is planning to impose taxes on expats’ remittances and companies, local daily Kuwait Times reported.

According to the latest report appeared on Kuwait Times daily, a special ministerial committee has already prepared a package of economic and financial reform legislation to be presented by the new Cabinet and referred to the new parliament in mid-December.

As per the report, the government aims to start executing its economic reform plan early and that it expects fierce confrontation in this regard with the new parliament. But it insists on pushing ahead with economic reform as the most important topic on the government’s agenda, along with security and the GCC security pact.

The agenda is to impose a 10 percent tax on companies and a 5 percent tax on expats’ money transfers, the report added.

Dear Kuwait,
We expats come her to make a living. thank you for giving us the opportunities but , why are things made so difficult in your world. Do you feel right all the increasing prices and taxes to be impose on expats? Fine increase but slowly, example from 2KD for a civil ID come to,3KD not 5KD straight. petrol from 0.065 fils you raise it straightto 0.110 fils and this is so inhuman. Kuwaitiscan manage as GOVT supports them but Expats We work very hard to make our lives. Enforcing Law is good and I am totally in agreement with it but however enforcing it with a payment that too which is beyond the capability of a man earning 40to60 KD per month is wrong. God gave us everything on earth but Never asked anything in return. what if he had?? Kind request Do consider the wages of a common man before you increase or impose any taxes. thank you. CJ

Guys, Modi is doing a great job in India. Standing in long queue will help common man in the long run. There is no need to stand in long queues. It is only a panic among people who have no much knowledge about banking system.

Every reform should suffer expat only, it should never touch citizens. Every new legislation must target Expat only, it cannot bind citizens.

@Ramesh Kumar, Mufaddal is 100% right. How can you say it better for our future? Do you know how the main black money stockists were already tipped off? Lets wait and watch. Why should a common man stand in queue for depositing his hard earned cash?

Every reform should suffer expat only, it should never touch citizens. Every new legislation must target Expat only, it cannot bind citizens. Every new thought is how to make expat life more miserable rather than to make the country transparent and drive towards growth.

Economic reform means the tax and duties to expatriates! What a short sight reforms?

What will Kuwait do if all expatriates leave the country, like what the Jordanian teachers did few weeks back? where will they charge? on the wall?

Should allow minimum transfer amount without tax (say 250KD) then impose 5% its ok....

5% is considerable as Income TAX in india is 10% to 30% after min cap..
