Minimum salary to get dependent visa increased to 450KD

IIK Staff Reporter Wednesday, October 12, 2016

Kuwait today increased the minimum salary to get a dependent visa for expatriates to 450 KD. The Minister of Interior signed the official memo today to increase the salary.

Earlier an expatriate with a salary of 250 KD can apply dependent visa for his wife and kids. As per the new rule, an expatriate can apply for dependence visa only if he have a minimum of 450 KD salary according to his work permit.

As per the new decision, the cases of expatriates already living in the country or those who were born here and draw salaries below KD 450 will be studied by the director general of the residence affairs department to decide whether they can be exempted from the salary condition.

The new decision however exempts 14 groups of expatriates from the salary requirement to sponsor their families. These include Chancellors, judges, prosecution staff and legal experts working in the public sector; doctors and pharmacists; university and professors at higher institutes; public school directors and deputies, educational supervisors, teachers, social workers and lab assistants; academic, financial and economic consultants; engineers; imams, preachers, muezzins and Quran teachers; librarians at government bodies and private universities; health ministry staff including nursing staff, paramedics, technicians and social workers; social workers and psychologists in the public sector; journalists, media staff and reporters; coaches and players at sports unions and clubs; pilots and flight attendants; and washers and buriers of dead bodies.

Hi IIK Friends,
Please clarify my Query;
I got family visa for my wife and younger son . My daughters (4yrs) Passport validity was less than 2 years due to that reason they denied to give family visa to my daughter, and they advise me you can take visit visa for your daughter and once she reach kuwait can transfer to family visa.

My salary is KD400 . I got visa before new rules implementation.

Visa Renewal for family in Kuwait NO PROBLEM they are stamping for 1 or 2 years based on Validity of Sponsor Visa Status. This law of KD 450 applicable only for new Visa applications.

There are two sides for the Govt. to increase the salary cap for bringing in their families. Govt. is trying to reduce the expats in Kuwait which in my opinion is a negative approach which can affect the business and economy in Kuwait. Rents will come down and it will be difficult for companies to get cheap and skilled labor. This can lead to increase in crime rate.

Logically this move is good, but this will effect low salary people who are forcefully separated by law and leads to haraam as per kuwait Islamic sheriath law.

Government should also implement at least 2 weeks paid vacation with Air face, so that this law is justified.

Since the living cost is very high in kuwait, people having low salary have no way other than sharing accommodation and ultimately our wife and childrens have to stay with strangers and leads to other complications.

Bachelor should be separated from family living area and to implement a law to provide compulsory company accommodation in designated area.

Looks like Govt has increased slab which is good as far as cost of living is gone up .One needs to think if its worth living with families here. Also Kuwait govt should see how many designations are fakes of Engineers specially as they dont possess Engineering degrees but shoun paper shows designation as engineers/accountants etc . Companies should be forced to designate people as per their qualification as per attested degrees and previous experience so that salaries are proportionate as per their qualification and designation. This will also help fakes to get status true and standardise whole country which will help Kuwait govt in cost saving as well.

This is a very foolish decision by the government. It's high time Kuwait should consider to build its economy especially during these times when the oil prices are low. The Real Estate market will be the most affected by this kind of decision which will indirectly have negative impact on the economy of Kuwait. Most of the expats earn below KD 450 & if this decision come into effect, they will send their families back to their hometown and again the scenario of Kuwait will end-up with bachelors/singles. The economy of Kuwait should be the prime focus instead reducing expat families, Kuwaitis will benefit nothing by this kind of decision.

Ridicules
They are dividing families its totally haram to keep long distance in Islam
If the person who can manage easily with 300 to 400 kd let him bring the family. What’s wrong?
If this going to be happen : they are offering haram, from halal , all bachelors will start in to bad deeds prostitution will go higher grade in Kuwait.
maafi qhair in kuwait in sha allah

Not everyone may agree. In 1994/1995 , the minimum salary to bring a family was 650 KD, probably equivalent of 1200 KD now. It was difficult to get visa but Kuwait was like Europe. Roads were traffic free. Owners ensure new Buildings have enough space , car parks,
standards are maintained. The moment salary rule changed many areas changed to Slum like situation. Traffic become pathetic. Good or bad is two different viewpoints

That's a good step forward. Why don't they also have minimum salary for each company to be increased as well based on the standard of living. Isnt that supposed to be like that? Find the rate of increase in past two years and give that % increase to each employee and make mandatory salary increment for all at least 5% per year. As it is, companies increase their percentage or margin likewise every year.
