Indian workers' rights guaranteed in Kuwait, affirms Kuwait Minister

Tuesday, August 2, 2016

The State of Kuwait is keen on safeguarding foreign communities namely the Indian expatriates, who constitute the largest non-Kuwaiti community in the country, affirmed the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor.

Dr. Hind Al-Sabeeh, also the Minister of State for Planning Affairs and Development, said in a statement on Tuesday that presence of the large number of Indians in the country indicates that their businesses are stable and their rights are safeguarded.

Minister said that there are around 549,196 Indian workers working in private sector in Kuwait and the number complaints registered between July 31 2015 and July 31 2016 is only 4,223.

The ministry's public relations units, based in all of the country's governorates, are ready all the time for receiving labourers’ complaints. Moreover, the local authorities have compelled employers to allocate financial guarantees for the employee, to be used for compensating the employee in case he has not been paid, Kuwait News Agency reported quoting Minister.

A number of female Indian workers had taken up refugee in the shelter for workers set up by the Kuwait government and departed the country after being paid all pending sums, report added.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the Indian Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs M J Akbar made a telephone call to Deputy Foreign Minister of Kuwait H.E. Khalid Sulaiman Al-Jarallah and discussed about the large number of Indian community living in Kuwait.

Earlier Sushma Swaraj tweeted that her colleague M J Akbar will take care of the Indian workers living in Kuwait.

Your opinions sound very dictatorial. how do you propose one should live their life, so that they dont offend your sensibilities. not driving thier favorite cars ? not take loans to meet their life goals or dreams ? it would be enlightening to read your "art of living".

I didnt received salary for five months. I am very surprised that management is not bothered about our problem. We as non manual staff not facilitated by food & accomodation by employer. We are owning rental flat and food expenses have to bear ourselves. So if we didnt recieved the salary for five months how can pay house rent, food expenes of own and family in India, educational expenses of children. It was defficult to manage when we get every month salary bcz of high rates of commodity. So just think what will face when some one not get for 5 months As I have loan of bank here in Kuwait that also couldnt pay since couple of months. bankers are threatening to send complaint of non paying debt to Leagal department then they will approch to MOI to put travel ban. In such case if some one has any emergency situation in his home land, he cant travel. As on date & time Salary pending for the month of January, February,May,june & July-2016. Inthis year2016 they paid only march & april two month for Non Manual Staff. But for workers pending salary may june july. some projects Like KNPC KOC client directly paid to employee's account. my humble request raise this issue with Indian consulate. Let them pay my indemnity so I can settle my bank loan and will go my home country.

Its not possible that only few complaint has been registered, Actual complaints are must be in thousands but not disclose because of good hold of strong companies on the ministries.

Still there are big construction companies not paying salary for the month of Jan-Feb-May-Jun-July & harassing staff who are suffering with their families. Is this Humanity..??

Also This company has tied up with other company not to hire their employee for no reason, if they don't have employment and money to pay, let the employees go & transfer where ever they want to join, but this is just for harassment. Govt. should take interest in it and make a strong law in favor of labor.
