India’s Development Story

The year is 1852. The British Empire is at its peak and has adopted the oppressive measures toward the Indians. Most of the Royal Families are either split into easily conquerable kingdoms and the rest are fighting among themselves, making an easy target for the British. Lapse for annexation is ordinary. In most villages, however, the villagers are tortured, the men captured for slavery, women and children made homeless and looted off their belongings. Just as calaverite has to go through a lot of melting before attaining its sole purpose of purity, and become valuable gold, this period in the history of India was what made the Indians strong and motivated to live and die for the country.

The First War of Independence and then the subsequent revolts of the smaller scales literally shook the foundations of the British Empire. Another major milestone of the journey was the arrival of Mahatma Gandhi in 1915. He was the driving force of our freedom struggle. Regional freedom struggles, violent movements, non-violent movements like Non-Co-operation Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, and Quit India Movement were supported by masses all together. Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Lala Lajpat Rai, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Lokmanya Tilak, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru, etc. also are names that cannot be ignored in any discussion about India’s Freedom Struggle. It was during this time that we proved earned ‘Unity in Diversity.’ Finally on 15th August 1947, after over 200 years of slavery and hardships, India finally earned her Independence, at the cost of the lives of thousands.

Since then our country has been progressing in its agricultural sector. The Green Revolution sparked a boost in the economy. Then employment generation had been taken care of by development in the secondary sector, the manufacturing industries. The high-level of concentration of the infant government on these two sectors of economy led to considerable isolation of India from the advancements in technology, in this time. Again, by the end of the 20th century India was back on its tracks of scientific development.

It is today, the fastest developing country on the planet. Schemes like Make in India promote foreign investment and Swachch Bharat Abhyaan, inculcate a basic feeling of cleanliness, which can solve multiple health and environmental problems. Today our leaders are well aware of the modern needs of people. We collectively undertake the responsibilities of helping the poor to develop as well as modernization. Global relations are also being improved, thanks to the joint spirit of our current government and the people of India. Let us keep this spirit alive by pledging today, on our 70th Independence Day, to diminish our differences and lead our magnify our national development, with a patriotic feeling in our hearts.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY !
