GE highlights digital industrial & advanced technology solutions to help transform power sector at ‘Kuwait Technology Seminar’

•Organized in partnership with the US embassy in Kuwait to put spotlight on power sector efficiency and productivity

•Complements the goals of the government to promote power sector efficiency

Kuwait City, Kuwait; June 1, 2016: GE (NYSE: GE) is underlining the potential of its digital industrial solutions to help transform Kuwait’s power sector by achieving unprecedented levels of efficiency and productivity, at the Kuwait Technology Seminar to be held on June 1, 2016.

The seminar is organized in partnership with the US embassy in Kuwait, and will be attended by the Kuwait Minister of Power & Water HE Ahmad Al-Jassar, along with other senior government officials and dignitaries.

At the Kuwait Technology Seminar, GE will highlight its Industrial Internet strategy as well as the latest advances from GE Power Services, GE Water, GE Steam Power Systems and GE Digital, which contribute to stronger power plant efficiency and productivity.

A dedicated workshop on the role of large, high-efficiency combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) in achieving Kuwait’s vision to double the power capacity will be a key topic of discussion at the seminar. This will be followed by a workshop on the water sector and how GE Water’s newest solutions can help achieve improved asset utilization and operational efficiency.

Experts will also discuss ‘Fuel Diversification: Clean and High Efficiency Steam Plant Technologies’ that underscore the practical applications of alternative fuel sources. A workshop on ‘Better Together’ will discuss the enhanced capabilities of GE covering total plant operations, post the GE-Alstom integration. Experts will also share insights on GE Digital’s focus on the service industry.

The seminar will conclude with a discussion on ‘Transforming the Power Sector: the GE Digital Industrial Revolution,’ that underlines the potential of integrating heavy machinery with big data to achieve unprecedented levels of productivity and asset use optimization.

The Hon. Douglas Silliman, US Ambassador to Kuwait, said: “GE is one of the leading US companies in Kuwait, and Kuwait is one of its most important markets in the region. GE’s investments in Kuwait continue to play a positive role in helping Kuwait meet its long-term infrastructure goals.”

Mohamed Mohaisen, GE’s CEO for Gas Power Systems, MENA, said: “As Kuwait focuses on doubling its power capacity, the introduction of digital industrial and advanced technology solutions including opportunities for fuel diversification, will serve as strong opportunity to meet the growing demand for power in the country. We will continue to work with our partners, especially with the government’s emphasis on promoting public-private partnerships, to introduce the newest technologies that will be a game-changer for the country’s power sector.”

According to estimates, Kuwait needs to strengthen its electricity output by 6GW from 16GW in 2015 to 22GW by 2020 to meet the growing demand for power. A number of power projects are being implemented in the country, and GE is working with its partners to provide high-end digital industrial solutions that can boost power sector efficiency and productivity.

GE recently announced its investment in the GE Kuwait Technology Center, one of the first-of-its-kind facilities outside the US that aim to encourage a culture of collaboration and co-creation in energy generation. The Center will leverage Industrial Internet solutions and encourage localized innovation in the power sector to serve its partners.

Powered by Predix, the world’s first and only cloud-based operating system built exclusively for industry, GE’s Industrial Internet and software solutions offer a 20 percent potential increase in performance for its customers. These solutions could help unlock US$465 billion in economic value for industry across the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey and Pakistan by 2025 annually.

In key partnerships in the country, GE’s technologies power the Sulaibiya wastewater treatment plant which is currently undergoing a major expansion slated to increase treatment capacity to an impressive 600,000 cubic metres per day, helping it meet water reuse goals in non-potable and industrial applications, and which when completed will make it the world’s largest-of-its-kind facility using membrane technology.

GE provides advanced F-technology power generation equipment for the 800-MW Shuaiba North power project, and supplies fixed-bed reactors for a new project planned by the Kuwait National Petroleum Company in Al Zour, which will be the largest refinery in the Middle East. It provides 12 LM6000 gas turbine generators to Alghanim International General Trading and Construction Co. W.L.L. for the Shuwaikh power plant facility, also known as the Emergency Peaking Power Shuwaikh (EPPS).
