Prominent Indian scientist in Kuwait and Senior Research Scientist & Program Manager in Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, Dr. S. Neelamani won the US patent for one of his innovative research work on floating breakwater along with colleague Dr. K. Al-Banaa.
The invention is on new type of Floating breakwaters. This invention can be used for protecting coastal area from erosion. It will be cost competitive compared to the conventional wave barriers like offshore breakwater built using stones.
Compared to conventional coastal erosion protection structure, the novel breakwater consumes less material. It is also easy to fabricate and assemble. The invented floating breakwater has different types of porous and non-porous skirt wall configurations to increase the wave energy dissipation. The invented floating breakwater is suitable for Gulf type marine environment and for countries, where good quality stones are expensive or not available.
"The invention can be used for coastal protection around the world and will save millions of dollar every year for the user, when compared to other available coastal protection structures," Dr Neelamani said.
Hailing from Tamilnadu, Dr Neelamani is a Senior Research Scientist in Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) and is also very active in the socio cultural arena in Kuwait.
