AP women in deplorable condition in Gulf jails, state seeks Centre's help

PTI Tuesday, May 24, 2016

The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday requested the Centre to intervene and rescue women from the state languishing in jails in Gulf countries.

In a letter to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, state's Information Technology and NRI Affairs Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said many women from AP fell victim to brokers who lured them with jobs in the Gulf.

"The brokers are taking women to Gulf countries on the pretext of providing employment. They are selling the women like products in the retail shop," Reddy alleged.

Women are being sold for Rs 4 lakh in Saudi Arabia, and Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh in Bahrain, UAE, and Kuwait, he claimed.

Unable to bear the harassment of Arabs, many women escaped from their clutches.

"The Arabs are filing cases against the escaped women and sending them to jail. They are being imprisoned for a long term. Nearly 25 women victims have been jailed by them," the AP Minister said.

"The Embassy officials in New Delhi were not taking any action against the brokers despite having their contact numbers and knowing their whereabouts," he claimed.

The victims were not in a position even to call their families.

"I request you to use your offices and issue necessary instructions to officials of Indian Embassies in the Gulf and extend required help to the women victim," he added.

"Necessary steps may also be taken to bring them back to their native places safely by providing free travel and visa documents at the earliest," Raghunatha Reddy urged Swaraj.

Indian government is shameless and not concerned. Firstly they allow women on maid visas to fly out of India to work in these Gulf countries whose citizens are harsh people like animals except a few. The government has to take action to stop and the Indian embassy is equally not concerned because this is how the whole Indian society is (Chalta hai) attitude. Secondly if the shameless Indian government cannot stop the NRI revenue coming in thru maids then atleast regulate the market, set a minimum salary cap and visa will only be accepted if the salary is deposited in the embassy including the maid's passport and every 6 months an individual from the embassy should visit the sponsor's house to check on the maids condition. All this cost can be put on the sponsors because if the sponsors wants maids to clean and cook for them then they must pay for this luxury. Shame on you Indian government officials and shame on you Indian embassy officials.

First they must catch the root cause of this problem which are the agents and surely charge them all expenses including salary for the number of days the poor women spent out there, and also sue the agents again for women's troubles, this is the correct way are this will be Justice. if anyone knows a link to vote or send email to enforce the Justice please share it ASAP.
THANKING YOU

The only place you can get justice in middle east is "court". 99% other govt bodies are citizens biased. Definitely you will not get justice other than courts. 99% cases are suppressed at police stations. Embassies should file case in court against sponsor, even it is expensive and time consuming, instead of advising victim to compromise with sponsor. Rich business men in gulf should support this noble cause.

As a indian i express my sympathy but from the bottom of my heart i can say, why only women coming from A.P. what there is no poverty in other states. here absconded maids are staying in shacks and spoiling the single males by doing all illegal things to make money. being a andhra man i can say in our states also they can get easily 200 rs per day and moderately happy with their kids and husband. i request the indian govt., immediately ban all the maids from india. showing sympathy is a different matter.
