People of south are ready to experiment: Designer Nishka Lulla

Fashion designer, stylist, that crop-top girl - is what her Twitter bio reads. But designer Nishka Lulla's creations go beyond her crop tops. Nishka says she enjoys being a stylist in Hindi filmdom but also likes to explore fashion down south as people there are willing to experiment.

A stylist to Bollywood actresses like Parineeti Chopra and Sonakshi Sinha and the daughter of Neeta Lulla, hailed as the 'Czarina of Indian Fashion', generally dresses up celebrities for events and red carpets. What about doing Bollywood films like her mother -- a National Award winning costume designer -- who has Hindi films like "Devdas" and "Jodhaa Akbar" to her credit?

"I don't really do Bollywood movies, but I do south movies. I am working on a few projects that are untitled right now. I have worked with actresses like Trisha, Shriya Sharan and Kajal Aggarwal down south. It's fun to work in a new market. That's why I chose to work there.

"They are ready to experiment. They prefer a lot more of woven fabrics and silk. I enjoy styling Kanjeevaram in a contemporary manner. I think they are more open to how something like a Kanjeevaram sari can be worn in different ways. Things like that are fun to do in the south," Nishka, whose forte is pret, told IANS during her visit to the capital for the launch of a new collection.

And now, she is set to start a colour riot via 109°F by Nishka Lulla. The brand 109°F's spring-summer collection tells the story of how to flaunt your true colours.

"This is basically to tell girls that you can flaunt your own personality through the collection. It's not for just one kind of a person, but for many different girls. Whether you are bubbly, classy or tomboyish, you can pick anything from the collection and make it your own.

"It is inspired by nature, by a holiday. It can be worn during day or night as its versatile," she shared about the collection that has dream-catcher, ikat and floral prints.

So, women can slip into palazzos, shirt dresses, crop tops, tunics and waist coats in vibrant colours such as hot pink, yellow and orange, and wink back at the scorching sun this season.

She is also happy as her association with the fashion brand means being able to "reach out to many more people rather than just my label". "There are so many college girls who want to wear designer outfits. They don't have that kind of budget so, this association helps to get their hands at designer wear at affordable price," she added.

The collection starts from Rs.2,500.
