Kuwait studying a proposal to deport terminated expat workers

Saturday, April 30, 2016

Kuwait is studying a proposal to force a foreign worker to leave the country if he or she is sacked by their employer, reports Kuwait Times daily.

According to Kuwait Times, this step comes as the state mulls ways to cut its expatriate population.

Under the current law, a worker who loses his job has three months to find another one or leave the country. This condition allows expatriate workers to remain in Kuwait, hampering efforts to adjust the country’s demographic imbalance, according to a recent study presented to the Supreme Council for Planning and Development (SCPD).

In order to make the proposed condition applicable, a worker would only be entitled to his financial claims once he terminates his residency visa and leaves the country, the study suggests.

To Observer> Why not you take up the task to 'shed light on or give proper advise to this Kuwait Government'? In fact they are short of some advisers right now! Wait another six months and see what will happen or what could be the situation in Kuwait! Did anyone read the article in today's Arab Times about an official in Saudi Arabia banned expatriates from buying vegetables from a certain public market because he wanted to attract more citizens to come to that market! As a result, the traders incurred a big loss as they couldn't sell their vegetables and the expatriates were afraid to go to that market! What about that? Will continue this discussion if you and me are in Kuwait after 6 months!

This is sensationalism created by news media. anyways nothing much exciting happens out here, so media have to stir up something to make people talk. ruffling expats is a safe and fun. No media censorship or prosecution required here. Any gossip becomes news here and sometime can become laws. whole world is like that. deal with it. if our own country was any sensible, we wouldn't be running here and there for livelihood.

This system will mislead some of the companies to blackmail their staff and forcing to do something's which is not their work at all. And we as expatriate should be work as a slave.????? what the bullshit idea this.

Tomorrow Kuwait will deport expats for breathing the air of Kuwait....what an illogical proposal!!!!? Where is the Kuwait Human Rights group??? This proposal is against humanity. The term "deport/deportation" shouldn't been used for a terminated expat. If a company/establishment doesn't want an expat employee, that is not the fault of the employee and it is not a crime or illogical. Deporting/deportation is meant for criminals and illegals, not for being terminated from job in a company. This is ridiculous. Somebody has to shed light or give proper advise to this Kuwaiti Government not to take this type of inhumane action.

Every time we think it is the worst proposal, they prove us wrong and go four steps further. Is Expat the single most priority issue for Kuwait?

If demographic imbalance is the MAIN concern, simply STOP issuing new work permits - that's it! But can Kuwait afford to do it?

This is absolutely inhuman proposal if somebody dares to implement it citing balancing expat population. People should think ten times now before even thinking coming to Kuwait as it will be tragic and disastrous and frustrating and most important highly unstable criteria for your families, children in schools etc . This is a harsh way of thinking." God only save these people". "Why these people are not saying from now onwards we dont want any expats" or "zero expats". That would be great. This is a very cruel human thinking.
