Kuwait ranks first Electricity consumption

Monday, April 11, 2016

Kuwait ranks first in the power consumption with an average power consumption of nearly 15,700 kW, Ministry of Electricity and Water ’s Undersecretary Mohammad Bushehri said. He also said that in water consumption Kuwait is in third rank with a daily consumption rate of 500 liters.

Bushehri said the ministry works on more than one aspect to guarantee rationalization of power and water consumption in various sectors, adding that the tariff of consumption categories being currently proposed is one of those aspects, in addition to the awareness campaigns the ministry organizes in this regard.

Bushehri said that it is wise to reconsider the way power and water is consumed, adding the ministry is also working on renewable energy and materials for lighting and air conditioning.

There is no no no awareness towards electricity conservation, there is no common sense, empathy or culture of power conservation in Kuwait. massive corporate towers, campuses, warehouses, factories, schools etc have electricity and electronics running 24/7. Buildings are not designed to use sunlight to optimum. Air-conditioning is running 24/7 and some senseless people use heaters to ward off Central A/C cooling. it is baffling to see the stupidity and wastage of power.

lots of electricity could be saved if parking lots consumption could be cleverly managed. Parking lot lights are on all night even when no cars.

The best way to control electricity is thru' pre-paid smart card (like pre-paid phone cards)and install smart meters in each building/apartments. Also, our smart Civil-IDs can be assigned with pre-paid amount for consuming electricity, once the amount in the card is over the electricity automatically cuts off until the smart card is recharged.

Electricity and water consumptions are more in Kuwait because the government does not want to control it.

For example, in our apartment complex, there are 2 lifts and there is no level indicators installed( the indicator to show at what floor the lift is resting now). Hence, when somebody wanted to go by lift, he presses for both the lifts and both the lifts moves up/down simply.
Instead, if he knows that one lift is very near to his floor, he will press for that lift only. All these are happening because there is no proper policy for governing such things.
