Marking the world women’s day Welfare Kerala Kuwait ladies wing conducted a whatsApp Elocution competition for ladies entitled “Indian Women : Challenges and hopes”. Towards empowering women, Welfare Kerala Kuwait Ladies wing took the inspiration from the alarming situation women facing in the current Indian scenario and the opportunities and hopes to overcome these challenges from the recent past history of India. In India nearly one-sixth of the world’s women live, a woman prime minister held vital powers over the lives of 600 million people for eleven years and modern Indian women have adorned high offices in that of President, Prime minister, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Leader of Opposition, yet in this nation dwell innumerable women who rarely step outside their homes. While many Indian women have taken conspicuous leadership positions in professional and public life, many more spend their days behind household walls. Even those who have set foot forward realizing their lights and recognizing their status, face new challenges of Indian society which is in the process of modernizing itself.

A panel of judges including leading writer Licy Kuriakose, Krishna Das and Anwar Shaji evaluated the entries and selected Sylvana Musthafa as winner. Ashalatha Balakrishnan and Bayana were given the 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively, while Sumi Akbar, Husna S.P. and Raziya Nizar were satisfied with consolation prizes. Welfare Kerala Kuwait Leaders Khaleelu Rahman, Sanoj, Mini, Waheeda, Mehbooba, and Sujariya distributed the Prizes to the winners. Welfare Kerala Kuwait Ladies wing convener Waheeda Faisal welcomed the Audience, Vice president Mini Venugopal presided over the function and Asst. Treasurer Sabeena proposed the vote of thanks.
