Amma Kuwait conducted Free Medical Camp & Launches “Amrita HASTH”

Health for the helpless was indeed the focus when AMMA Kuwait and Indian Doctors Forum IDF came together at the Integrated Indian school on 16th March 2016. Compassion and commitment was amply demonstrated at the health awareness camp where doctors and paramedics from IDF, Kuwait Heart foundation, Indian Optometrists Association and many allied health services companies came together.

On the morning of Friday, 18th March 2016 Indian Ambassador to Kuwait Shri Sunil Jain inaugurated the camp to a floating crowd of nearly 500 expatriates who showed up at the venue for consultation. In his inaugural speech, the Ambassador expressed sincere gratitude to Amma Kuwait and IDF for the stellar work done by them in bringing medical services within the reach of the needy expatriate. Other dignitaries were Dr. Vivek Wani - IDF Vice President, Dr. Sunil Yadev – IDF Community Services Secretary, Mr. Aninda Banerji - CFO of City Group Company, Mrs. Jayammal Wilson - Principal of Integrated School.

Ambassador Shri Sunil Jain also launched Amma Kuwait’s new project “Amrita HASTH” – Humanitarian Activity Supporting The Homeless. Born out of compassion on seeing the less fortunate homeless using half burnt pyre wood to keep them warm during Indian winter season, a few Amma Kuwait ladies came up with this idea of knitting for the homeless. Many women and children are now engaged in this humble project which gives immense satisfaction and a sense of humility.

As the day progressed geographic differences were brought down as hundreds from different nationalities and segments of society queued for free registration, consultation and counsel. Various specialties such as Cardiology, Gynecology, General Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Diabetes, Dermatology, Orthopedics, Gastroenterology, Urology, Neurology and others functioned from within the school’s class rooms that were converted into temporary consultation rooms. Additionally, lab facilities were operational at the venue for those who wished to have free sugar and cholesterol tests done. Ultrasound, ECG and Optometric tests were also provided free at the camp.

Under the guidance of Shri. Madhavankutty Menon and Sashi Nair, a tireless force of Amma Kuwait volunteers offered meticulous assistance to the crowd throughout the day from registration to crowd control to catering of light refreshments, garbage picking and cleanup. City Group company’ contribution towards this camp needed to be specially mentioned, as they provided the transport facilities and volunteer assistance. Asharf Co, Pharmacia Kuwait, Kindi Group and many other company’s and organizations willful participation was well appreciated. Glucometers were given free to the first 100 attendees. Nouri Industrial Est and Dollarco were the main sponsors. Dr. Wani, the Vice President of IDF greatly appreciated the meticulous planning and execution behind the success of this medical camp.

The full day Camp conducted free of cost on a holiday made it possible for patients to have their queries answered. The coming together of two likeminded associations equally committed towards a cause as compassionate and noble as health care explains the enviable success of the event.
