ASSE Kuwait Chapter  conducted  Technical Meet “Benchmarking of HSE Performance in Oil & Gas Industry"

American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), Kuwait Chapter is a premier voluntary, non-profit making Health, Safety and Environmental organization, which strives to provide professional guidance, training, consultancy and resources to the industrial and social sectors in the region.

As a part of the continuous efforts in its professional journey, ASSE-Kuwait Chapter organized a 196th Technical Meet (6th in the term 2014-15) titled " Benchmarking of HSE Performance in Oil & Gas Industry" on 8th April 2015 at Kuwait Oil Company, Hubara Assembly Hall. The event was sponsored by Kuwait Oil Company. The chief guest for the Technical meet was Mr. Ahmad Abbas Manager HSE –Kuwait Oil Company. Mr. Ali Kashawae, Manager HSE – Kuwait National Petroleum Company was also present for the session as a special invitee.

ASSE Kuwait Chapter Act. Secretary Mr. Dinesh Dutta initiated the proceedings and Mr. Sampath Reddy Act. President of the chapter gave the welcome address. ASSE Kuwait Chapter Chairman Mr. Fadhel Al Ali, in his address highlighted the technical meet and its relevance and importance of Benchmarking in oil Industry. He told that the bench marking is a tool to evaluate the performance of the organizations to know where they stand in the industry.

The Technical meet on “Benchmarking of HSE Performance in Oil & Gas Industry" began with the welcome address by Mr. Ritesh Gupta, Head of Technical Events Committee by introducing the speakers Mr. Ahmed Abbas, Manager HSE, Kuwait Oil Company and Mr. Mohammad K.S. Mohiuddeen, Senior Safety Engineer, HSE Group, KOC and Advisory Committee Member of ASSE Kuwait Chapter

Mr. Ahmad Abbas briefed about the importance of Benchmarking of HSE Performance and highlighted the key issues pertaining to the topic. The technical presentation was continued further by Mr. Mohiuddeen. He enlightened the topic in detail and covered the following aspects:

? Advantages of Benchmarking

? What is Benchmarking of HSE Performance

? What is to be done to Benchmark HSE Performance?

? Way Forward to Benchmark the HSE Performance

? Sources to Benchmark HSE Performance

? Benchmarking of Safety/Environment/Health Indicators-Case Studies

? Recommendations!

The technical session was very much interactive and was followed by Question & Answer session. The technical topic was an eye opening to many participants and was well appreciated by all the participants/ HSE Professionals from different companies. The program was very much beneficial to all the participants. More than 80 ASSE Kuwait chapter members participated from various sectors (Government Sectors, Oil & Gas Companies, Contractors and, HSE Consultancies).

Mr. Faisal Al- Mirza, Team Leader, HSE Systems Team, HSE Group, KOC also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the efforts of ASSE Kuwait Chapter.

As a token of appreciation from ASSE, Mr. Fadhel Al Ali, Chairman of ASSE Kuwait Chapter presented the mementos to all the speakers. Mr. Jignesh Shah, Head of Health & Environment committee delivered the vote of thanks. The event was concluded with dinner sponsored by Kuwait Oil Company.
