Awesome Traveling Experience to Udaipur: A magnificent place

Date: 1st august 2014 to 15 august 2014.

I visited with my husband and 3 year old son and we all enjoyed a lot.

For Men: This place is merry and fun, similar to Goa when you sit at beach, here there are many restaurants overlooking lake.

For Women: It’s shopping place of stone jewellery and zinc/silver cutlery, miniature art paintings

For Kids: It’s Boating & again boating and Puppet Show.

Geography: The Udaipur has three parts: Old City, New City and Country Side. And we explored all well. The Udaipur is surrounded by Aravali Hills.

Old City: City Palace, Lake Palace, Jagmandir Palace are the part of old city. Mountainous landscape of the old city with narrow streets gives you feel like you are in a hill station during winter.

New City: Sahelion Ki Bari, Lok Kala Mandal, Nehru Park are situated in New City.

Countryside: Haldighati, Sas Bahu Temple (Nagda) and Kumbhalgarh are the part of countryside.

Stay: as we have lot of relatives in UDAIPUR ,we stayed at one of their place.

The season we chose for traveling was best.It was monsoon there. It was looking like paradise on earth.Eveywhere it was lush green.Lakes were overflowing everywhere. In true sense it was Venice of east.

Starting days::

we first moved to Nehru Park which is at a centre of the Fatehsagar lake as my son insisted for a boat ride. My son enjoyed a lot the boat ride and fountains in the park. It is a good place for evening outing for Udaipur city dwellers where you can eat bhutta(corn) and gol gappas(water balls).

I give *** to this place

Then we decided to take lunch and we headed towards new city. As my husband prefers non vegeterian, all good chicken wallas have no sitting arrangement. We ended up at Parkview restaurant, Town Hall., which is a routine restaurant.

Then we stroll around the Town hall market and purchased things like Sualin, hawai chappals which we forgot to bring. Then we took autorickshaw and went back.

We relaxed for an hour and then we decided to see the cultural show at Bagore Ki Haveli(7pm onwards). We ate cake pie at café edelweiss Walnut Date pie extremely delicious). Then we moved to Bagore Ki Haveli and found that no show will be today because of sudden demise of Ex- Governor of Rajasthan. Then we moved towards to City Palace for Light and Sound Show and we didn’t get the tickets. Oh Damn!

Then we decided to go to Jagdish temple, which is at the centre of Old City and just near to City palace. This is the highest structure in Udaipur, may be just equal to City palace height.

We enjoyed the dinner at roof top restaurant of the The Tiger.

Mid days:

we started late around 1 pm from our place. We decided to go To jagmandir Palace which is on an island in the Pichola lake similar to Lake Palace (Taj). We don’t afford to go Lake Palace as you have to buy a Lunch/Dinner buffet worth Rs 4400/- per person.

Entry to Jagmandir Palace is through City Palace. First buy tickets for City Palace and then buy tickets for Jagmandir Palace (Before Noon : 150/- and afternoon 350/-) which includes to and fro boat rides.

This is a must visit.

I give **** to this place

It is already 5pm when we came back from Jagmandir Palace and City palace museum is already closed. Then I bought tickets for Light and Sound show at 7pm which we missed yesterday. We went to nearby restaurant as there is around one hour for the show. The restaurant is just 50 meters from City palace on the first floor and open(forget name). Very good cuisines they make: from continental to Italian pizza and yummy cakes, also Chinese manchurian excellent. A must visit for continental,Italian, chinese but you don’t get good Indian food there.

We proceeded for Light and Sound Show, it was wonderful show. You came to know what is Udaipur. You came to know dynasty of Mewar which has started from Nagda to Chittaurgarh and then Udaipur where still Maharaja Arvind Singh resides. This is a must must show for Udaipur visitors.

I give **** to this place

We have taken dinner at Anna Restaurant which is located near Jagdish Temple down the lane which is going to new city. This is a very good and budgeted restaurant where you get home cooked food if you are home sick. You will also get local rajasthani dishes there.

On the way opposite to Anna there is a small sweet shop. We ate Gajar ka halwa and mung dal ka halwa. Delicious halwa with local taste of Rajasthan.

Last days::

We decided to see countryside, which is a must when you are visiting Rajasthan. You came to know about the landscapes, natives, language, agriculture crops and a lot more. We hired a taxi (Tata Indigo) for Rs 1200/- for a day long trip to Haldighati, Eklingji Temple, Nagda, Nathdwara. But later on our driver took us to another Nathdwara temple which is on the way to Haldighati and finally we visited only Haldighati and Nagda

Haldighati is famour for its natural yellow soil where a battle was fought between Mughal Emperor Akbar and Mewar King Maharana Pratap. In this battle, Maharana pratap’s Horse Chetak died of injuries and saves the life of Maharana Pratap. There is a museum of Maharana Pratap In Haldighati and grave of Chetak. The way to Haldighati is deserted & mountainous with no vegetation but plantation of cactus family plants. We enjoyed the camel riding there.

I give *** to this place

After visiting Haldighati I was completely under spell of bravery of Mewar kings and people. Only two kings of India have fought with bravery against Akbar, rest all had surrenedered. One is Maharana Pratap of Mewar Kingdom and Rani Durgawati of Gondwana.

Then we proceeded towards for Nagda where Sas Bahu Temple is situated. Nagda is the old capital of Mewar Kingdom before Udaipur and Chittoragarh.

In fact, actual name of the temple was Sahasra Bahu. Currently it is remains of the Sahasra Bahu temples of the 9th & 10th century AD, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is popularly referred to as Sas Bahu temples (a local corruption of the original Sahasra Bahu). The temples are now in partial ruins but one can still marvel at their original splendor, the artisanry and the perfect geometry that must have been the hallmark of that era!

The temple is on the Archaeological Survey of India's list of heritage monuments.

You can hire a guide inside the temple who will explain you the construction of the temple using the sculptures only and all sculptures are of Hindu Devi Devtas. Even at the entrance of main temple, you can see complete Ramayana and Mahabharta inscribed.I give **** to this place

We reached back at our home in the evening and seen the cultural show at ‘Bagore Ki Haveli’. We have seen 3 to 4 types of rajasthani dances(chari, ghoomar etc.) and puppet show. I give **** to this place

Then we moved to ‘Ambrai’ Restaurant in Hanuman Ghat. Yes, this is the restaurant we have seen during boat ride to Jagmandir palace. The fine-dining open restaurant overlooking the was filled with flickering candles, soft music, and column heaters was the perfect ambience. I give ***** to this place

We came to know, International Kite festival is going on in the city. We visited the Gandhi Ground and enjoyed the show. Then we moved to Saheliyon Ki Bari. . I give ** to this place

Then we visited Lok Kala Mandal. It is a museum which shows the history of rajasthan culture, people, tribes, musical instruments, dances. You can see puppet show there, whi
