KUNA Thursday, March 26, 2015

Director General of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) Sheikh Dr Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah inspected subway lines in Tokyo, as Kuwait plans to launch a metro system soon while Japan is pushing railway exports. Sheikh Dr Meshaal rode the Fukutoshin Line, the newest subway line in Tokyo which was completed in 2008. He was also briefed on Tokyo Metro Company’s advanced technologies, operation system, facilities of trains and stations, safety measures and disaster prevention steps as well as facilities for disabled people.

According to Tokyo Metro, the Fukutoshin Line is one of the deepest subway lines in the Japanese capital, with an average depth of 27 meters.

Passengers using key subway stations in Tokyo also enjoy the adjacent underground shopping street, which is connected to nearby buildings and shopping complexes to commuters and shoppers to avoid bad weather.

KDIPA chief also visited the new multistory commercial and entertainment complex Hikarie, which connects to busy Sibuya station. As a host city of the 2020 Olympics, Tokyo is pushing forward large-scale redevelopment projects, like such as the one iShibuya district, which accommodate some 3 million people daily.

Under its ambitious National Development Plan, Kuwait plans to build a nationwide metro system, which is designed to address the growing issue of congestion and create a better environment for growth in commercial, business, industrial and residential markets.
