Festival of Lights!

S.John Wednesday, December 24, 2014

Did the heading just remind you of Deepavali?? No... Sorry.. That was not what I was referring to.

Come December... the nights are as nearly as bright as day ... the expat residential windows and balconies come alive like never before… Adorned with garlands of beaming lights... and stars of different kinds, the tiniest of corridors and the darkest of apartments are seen to their full glory with the curtains drawn back to display the beautifully decorated Christmas trees.

Especially in Jleeb, it really is a never ending celebration. As one walks along the streets , it cant be helped but to wonder at the different artistic skills of the residents displayed out . Stars of different shapes, sizes and colours, lightings take up whatever space they can find.. sometimes, even the whole building… That’s right… apart from individual flats, many buildings glow with lines of lights hung from the very roof , all the way down crowning the top floor with stars.

Yes, it definitely is a sight to saunter through the streets of Jleeb and Salmiya teeming with carolers and Santas and though the nights are chilly, joyous memories warm the cockles of the heart as the tune of ‘O Holy Night’ is remembered.
