Kuwait has not stopped the issuance of work permits, reports Al-Shahid daily quoting Undersecretary Mohammed Al-Kandari. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor still issues work permits to expatriates under certain categories, in accordance with the mechanism specified earlier, Al-Kandari affirmed.
Clarifying reports about the ministry’s alleged decision to stop the issuance of work permits to expatriates under Article 18 for three years, Al-Kandari reiterated the ministry issues work permits regularly for various departments and categories without restrictions on any nationality. He pointed out there is no reason for the ministry to stop the issuance of work permits, especially since this decision will negatively affect a number of sectors.
Al-Kandari added Kuwait cannot open its labor market for marginal workers who pose a grave threat to the security and social structure of the country.
