India government will intervene the issue of nurses’ in Kuwait – Sushma Swaraj

The central government will intervene in the issue of Kerala nurses who lost their job in Kuwait recently, said external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj. Centre had contacted the Indian Embassy in Kuwait and given necessary instructions, Sushama Swaraj informed the Kerala BJP Chief V Muraleedharan, who bought the issue of Keralaite nurses suffering in Kuwait to the notice of foreign ministry.

More than 400 nursing staff, mostly from Kerala, had lost their job last month after the Ministry of Health cancelled the license of the company that recruited them.

Most of the nurses had been working in Adan Hospital while others had been with other clinics under the MoH. The license of the company is reported to have been cancelled after the ministry awarded a contract to another company and this made hundreds of the nurses jobless who has been working in Kuwait for the last 10 years.

The new company who got the contract is preparing to recruit new nurses from India, while hundreds of nurses who are already qualified and have experience in working in Kuwaiti hospitals and clinics are left behind jobless.
