An inspirational and motivating session with Dr. Babu Rangarajan conducted at Gulf Indian School.

Dr.Babu Rangarajan : M.Sc [psy]., M.Phil [Cli.psy]., IDGC[NCERT, New Delhi]., Child & Clinical Psychologist.

Since 2010 he is working in Neuro Foundation Centre in Salem.

He has the major responsibility of conducting analysis of the patients before and after surgery. Training is his passion. He has conducted several programs for teachers, film stars, executives, members of parliament, employees of reserve bank, and prisoners of central jail.

He came to Kuwait in the beginning of the October.

We at Gulf Indian School were very lucky to interact with him due to the sincere efforts of our Principal Mam and the management.

He visited our school on 29th October and had a fruitful session with our school students. Students from class IX- XII had the rare opportunity to meet this inspiring person.

Dr.Babu taught us about various interesting things such as effective studying habits, how to manage negative emotions and explained about the psychology of behavior.

He told us about the difference between hearing and listening. He clarified that hearing is done with the ears and listening is done by our mind and brain. When we hear, we don’t try to interpret and understand what is being said. Hearing is an action but listening is a form of reaction.

According to Dr.Babu to be successful you need to be a good listener. He specified that hearing is just obtaining unwanted sounds and that only by listening we can acquire knowledge

He added that there is no specific part called mind. It is only a function of brain psychology. All feelings and emotions are controlled by the mind.

He told us that the importance of psychology is to be able to control our emotions. All successful people have mainly achieved success because they have understood their psychology and they have identified their mental and physical strengths and have controlled their emotions.

He specified that successful people don’t carry their backgrounds with them, they are never discouraged by the bad experiences of the past and they always have a positive attitude towards all situations whether good or bad.

He gave us a formula for success which says: Success depends on Interest, Involvement, Motivation and Concentration.

If you want to be different be different from now itself. Start today itself, as time and tide waits for none.

According to him our mind feels happy when we acquire new knowledge.

He said that it is not always essential to communicate through words but even we can communicate through our emotions and actions.

He also told that as per statistics if a person practices his passion for 10,000 hours or more he will surely be a master in that particular field. He supported this statement by giving the examples of great achievers like Sachin Tendulkar, Dr A.P.J Abdul Kalam etc.

He also told us that we should use our money wisely, in such a manner so as to get long term benefits and not short time benefits. He gave us the example of Mr.Suhas Gopinath who is the youngest CEO, who had started a company in USA at the age of 14.

He spoke about major psychological emotions such as happiness, interest, involvement etc. He added that the quality of our life depends on the choices we make. If we make the right choices we will be successful and if we make the wrong choices we have to face the consequences.

Dr.Babu gave us tips for academic success and told us that with focus and concentration nothing is impossible.

Success = Focus + Concentration

The session was very interactive and Dr.Babu motivated and appreciated the students who gave brilliant answers to his questions by giving them a chocolate. I too was fortunate enough to win a chocolate from him by answering a question brilliantly.

The session was of great use to all the students and taught them how to focus and control their emotions to achieve success. All students enjoyed the session and also learnt a lot from Dr.Babu.
