No tolerance for commercial fraud -- Ministry

KUNA Thursday, October 23, 2014

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is taking it upon itself to strike with a firm hand any businesses that practice commercial fraud against consumers, said a ministry official on Wednesday.

The ministry receives innumerable complaints from consumers regarding such fraud upon which the ministry takes immediate and decisive action which more often than not involves closing down these businesses, said the ministry's undersecretary Abdulaziz Al-Khaldi, in a statement to KUNA on the sidelines of his opening today an exhibit for perfumes and watches.

He noted that the ministry has availed to the consumer the hotline 135 to call in their complaints whenever they spot commercial fraud at the places they frequent for shopping.

He urged consumers to use the hotline as their input would facilitate the work of the ministry in catching fraudulent practices by some businesses or merchandizers.

About the perfumes and watches exhibit, he said he was delighted to see it held twice a year due to popular demand, appreciating the fact that over 170 local, regional, and international brand-name manufacturers and mass merchandizers have taken part in displaying their wares at the current exhibit, which is sponsored by 19 local business sponsors.

The exhibit is scheduled to remain open to the public until November 1st. div>
