Santhwanam Kuwait Gives New Meaning to Onam Celebrations

ONAM is a festival of unity, sharing, caring and love, people join others in celebration. It is the time to share the spirit & joy of giving selflessly. SANTHWANAM, a renowned Social Welfare Organization in Kuwait celebrated this year’s ONAM giving a new meaning to the celebration of Kerala’s festival of equality and prosperity.

Like previous years, SANTHWANAM shared the true spirit and ethos of the ONAM festival by distributing ONAM Food Kits to Tribes (Adivasis) of Attappadi area and arranged sumptuous Onasadhya (Onam Feast) to street children, mentally and physically challenged patients, aged and orphan & street children/adults sheltered in many institutions all over Kerala & Mangalore.

NAVAJEEVAN CHARITABLE TRUST, Kottayam: A centre for more than 240 mentally challenged persons, both male and female from all over India, belonging to different castes and creeds being cared. SANTHWANAM arranged ONASADYA and distributed ONAKKODI to all inmates here on the day of Thiruvonam.

THERUVORAM, Kochi: Murugan S, an auto driver by profession, has been doing social work since he was 19, rescuing the poor, sick and mentally challenged from the streets and leaving them in the care of hospitals, shelters and old age homes. In the last 13 years, he has rescued and helped more than 2,000 people, a well-documented testimony to his compassion for the poor.

THERUVORAM aims to reach out to the most marginalized children and old age people to provide interventions of shelter, medical, repatriation, rescue, death related, sponsorship, emotional support and guidance!! SANTHWANAM’s ONAM FEAST and distribution of new dresses enjoyed by all sheltered by THERUVORAM.

SEON ASHRAM TRUST – Belthangady, Karnataka – sheltering more than 450 inmates including mentally & physically challenged persons and destitute children and infants. It was a memorable Onam for the inmates and volunteers of SEON. This was 2nd time SANTHWANAM organizing ONAM Festival at SEON Ashram Trust.

ATTAPPADI TRIBAL SETTLEMENTS: As a part of celebrating with indigent society, SANTHWANAM distributed ONAM kits containing Rice, groceries and new cloths to the members of each family in the tribal area. This initiative was organized through renowned social figure, Smt. Uma Preman of Santhi Medical Information Centre.

ABHAYA – Trivandrum, Kerala – An institution run by Smt. Sugathakumari Teacher for mentally challenged women and children. SANTHWANAM shared the spirit and joy of ONAM with the inmates of ABHAYA by serving ONASADHYA.

SANTHWANAM Team expressed their sincere thanks to all expatriate community for their help and support for making ONAM joyous and wonderful to indigent society. SANTHWANAM enjoys with more than 3000 like minded members and well wishers in Kuwait to provide help to underprivileged ones in India and expat society in Kuwait.
