Do not question the light called “Guru”

Sureshkumar Jangid Tuesday, September 2, 2014

I remember an incident of one Sunday when I was travelling in local train with my friends in Mumbai, sitting near the entrance with my legs hanging down in a speeding train. All of a sudden, my friends Manish who was standing next to me screamed, “Lift your legs.” And with no other thought in my mind, I pulled my legs up, only to realise that my legs were going to hit a newly constructed ramp. If only before lifting my legs had I asked “Why?” I wouldn’t have standing on my own legs.

It seems a very little thing but we are so used-to of this small word “Why” in our daily life, without realising that it will impact on our life so much later. We ask why to everyone around us, it can be our parents, our friends, in our office and our Teachers too.

By this I never mean that you should not ask question at all. Ask questions on the doubts, but do not doubt the Teacher. You should ask question to seek clarity but not to contradict meaning.

We remember our nursery rhymes so perfectly all because we learnt them without questioning out teacher, we trusted them and learned everything what was taught to us as it is. The secret behind all successful students is that they had questions to the teacher, but never questioned the teacher.

My guru T. T Rangarajan once said “You cannot learn from a person unless you see a teacher in him” though seem simple but very true and hence then only I realised that why I cannot teach my Father.

The word ‘Guru’ is derived from the Sanskrit language and has a deep spiritual meaning. Its two syllables, GU: denotes the spiritual ignorance that most of humankind is in. and RU: represents the radiance of spiritual knowledge that dispels the spiritual ignorance. In simple terms Guru is GU: Meaning darkness, and RU: Meaning light. The guru is the one who liberates you from darkness to light. When there is so much darkness in your life, just follow the light called “Guru”, for he will show you the way, and don’t tell him to turn your way; you may not reach your destination. Chapter 18, verse 66 of the Bhagavat Gita says, “if you surrender unto me, I will liberate you.

Guru Brahma (He is the creator)

Guru Vishnu (He is the Protector)

Guru Devo Maheshwaraha (He is the destroyer of all evil)
