The world’s first sand festival featuring the theme of Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp from the” 1001 Arabian Nights” is being told in combination with sand sculptures and light effects at the Kuwait International Fair ground at Mishref, K uwait. It is a marvellous piece of architecture. Remal is organized by P2BK (Proud to be Kuwaiti Organization).
The creativity exhibited there is mind blowing. There are around 37 different sculptures constructed out there. 73 of the world’s best sand artists came to Kuwait and worked together to reimagine the stories of 1001 Nights and according to the organizers, the sand park will be the world’s largest.
Some of the great artists behind these sculptures are:
1. Ted Seibert from Chicago, USA. He’s 1 of 73 sand artists at Remal and has helped set multiple Guinness World Records in sand sculpting.
2. Damon Langlois from British Columbia, Canada. He is a World Champion sand artist.
The sand sculptures takes up around 28,000 square meters or around the size of four soccer fields. This project includes a 10,000 ton central sculpture more than 50 feet tall and 2,500 linear feet of 10-foot walls constructed of carved sand. The quantity of sand used is around 28,000 tons which is about 1,000 dump truck loads. The cost is about $2 million to $3 million US dollars or about 1 million Kuwaiti dinars. Some of the sculptures are 15 meters tall.
The sand sculptures are beautifully carved and given special light effects according to its theme. The stories are also displayed beside the sculptures. The sand sculptures bring to life the characters of the Arabian Nights stories. Watching these sculptures and reading these stories takes us back to the great old days of storytelling.
It was a great experience watching and admiring these sculptures and it looked like a journey into Arabia. It also reminded me about the pyramids of Egypt and gave me a feeling as if I was walking in the Valleys of the Kings and Queens which I had seen in Egypt.
After my visit back home I was amazed and had a feeling as if I had just returned from a wonderful holiday.
It is a fabulous way to spend your day out with your family. Best time to visit is around 5PM, so you can see these amazing sand sculptures in the daylight as well in the dark when they are lit up.

It was an amazing experience. The sand sculptures will be on display till end of April. The festival is open from Monday to Saturday and the timings are from 10 a.m. to 12a.m.The entry fee is 3 KD per person.
It is highly worth it. Don’t miss it. It is a once in a life time opportunity.
