Landmine victim Jayashankar flies home

Jayashankar who lost two legs and two eyes from injuries caused by a landmine blast in Salmi desert of Kuwait and who is now able to limitedly use artificial legs, has been finally flown home. Mr. Jayasanker, a native from Villapuram, Tamilnadu was under treatment for long period at different hospitals in Kuwait. Kerala Art Lovers Association-KALA Kuwait activists with the support of doctors and nursing staff from PMRS hospital, Jahra, Tamilnadu Engineers Forum (TEF) and generous friends have been attending to the multiple amputees, ever since he was taken to hospital. The involvement of Indian Embassy in Kuwait also helped Mr. Jayasanker to repatriate from Kuwait in a speedy way. Well wishers and hospital authorities have arranged artificial limbs, wheel chairs and other walking aids for him and now he is able to walk with a minimum support from third party.

Besides helping Jayashankar to retain as much limb function as possible, KALA also raised and handed him a fund for the purpose of his rehabilitation back home. The demand draft of three Lakhs rupee was presented to him by Kala president T V Hikmath, General Secretary J Saji, Thomas Mathew Kadavil, James K Thomas, Vinod K John, Jayan T V, Anil Kukkuri and others.

Earlier the story of Jayashankar was published in IndiansinKuwait.com and large number of readers and well wishers offered financial support to him and send their contributions directly to his bank account in India.

At the airport, the relative who is supposed to accompany him faced the problem for immigration clearance and his co travelers in the flight helped him to go through all official formalities, finally travelled to Chennai at 12.00 PM.

KALA president Mr. TV Hikamath, Literary Secretary James K Thomas, Friends and social activists from Tamilnadu, Mr. Farook, Elamkovan, Badusha, and lot of well wishers were present at Airport for the send off.

It was an unforgettable sight at the departure lobby of the airport when Jayashankar slowly lifted his hands up in anticipation.
