Fire breaks out in under construction site in Kuwait University

A fire that caught a Kuwait University (KU) facility early on Saturday has been quenched, a university official said.

Firemen responded immediately to a call from Kuwait University warning that there was a fire at an under-construction KU building, and managed to put the conflagration under control within a record time, Dr. Rana Al-Fares, the chief of the construction program of the Sabah Al-Salem University City, said in news remarks.

The fire initially caught the 8-000-sqm College of Education for Girls and then moved to the 9,000-sqm nearby College of Arts for Girls due to winds, she said.

The fire caused neither causalities nor material damage to nearby university facilities, she reassured.

Investigations are to be carried out to look into the causes of the conflagration, the official said, vowing that relevant findings would be announced in full transparency.

Meanwhile, Director General of the General Fire Administration Maj. Gen. Yusuf Al-Ansari said investigation was underway in order to find the secret layers of the fire.

A report on the causes of the fire will be announced within a couple of weeks, he told KUNA, adding that the fire covered 7,000 meters and caught three under-construction facilities.

Six squads reached the site only six minutes after they received a call from the Kuwait University and managed to put the conflagration out at a record time.

Only three firemen were slightly wounded while trying to put the fire under control, he said, noting that they were treated on the sport.

The fire caused a little damage to the buildings, Al-Ansari pointed out.

Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah was following up on efforts to control the fire, he said. n me
