The words cast their magic spell yet again, though this time in prose. The evening of Friday, 30th November, 2012 witnessed yet another splendid programme which left the members of Writers’ Forum, Kuwait- stirred and stimulated. An evening of Story Narration was organised at the residence of one of its members- Dr. Waseem Siddiqi in Ahmadi. Four story-writers presented their original and creative stories, which left the audience thrilled and yet, thirsty for more.
The evening began with a formal note of welcome extended by the General Secretary of the Writers’ Forum Syed Qamar Minto. Mrs. Tajwer Sultana was invited to be the Chief Guest on the occasion, while Dr. (Ms.) Navniit Gandhi presided over the evening’s session.
The session began with Mrs. Zeba Siddiqi presenting her story titled: ‘Karamati Baba’ ( A Trickster Godmen) in Urdu. Her story revolved around how we get victimized by our superstitious beliefs in Godmen in general. Rajesh Verlekar, who drew inspiration from a real life incidence, presented a story in English titled: ‘Our Deepawali Parcel’, which engagingly described the emotions of a mother-in-law in India who unsuccessfully tried to send a parcel of sweets to her daughter overseas for the Deepawali festival. Dr. Waseem Siddiqi’s story in Urdu, titled: ‘Doodhwala’ (The Milk man), too brought out the subtle relationship shared between the ‘Doodhwala’ and his various customers. Finally, a story titled: ‘Aankhen’ (Eyes) was presented in Urdu by Shahjahan Jaffery, in which she, through a long conversation of two lovers, captured their fond memories and sacrifice for each other.
All members present at the session gave their opinions and comments after the narration of each story. The Chief Guest Mrs. Tajwer Sultana showered words of praise on all the narrators and said that she was so immensely motivated by the morals which the stories suggested and that it was a delight to be a member of the Writers’ Forum. A critical appreciation of the stories and encouraging remarks were then given by Dr. Navniit Gandhi who had presided over the entire session.
