Syro Malabar Cultural Association Abbasiya unit celebrated anniversary

Syro Malabar Cultural Association (SMCA), Abbasiya Area Unit has celebrated the anniversary of Family Units & Faith Formation Classes at Blessed Evuprasyamma Nagar (Integrated Indian School) on 17th February, 2012. More than 3,000 people attended the program which started at 3:00 PM and lasted till 10:00 PM.

The celebrations were very colorful with many stage programs of SMCA members and their children. However, the main attraction of the event was the Faith Proclamation Rally with "Ponkurishu", "Muthukuda" etc, resembling the ritual procession at native parishes. This year "Kappalottam" was included in the Rally, to demonstrate and experience the Kappalottam celebrations of Kuravilangadu Martha Mariam Church. This is a replication of biblical events described in the book of Prophet Jonah. A team of 25 members lead by Dijesh Nediyani, demonstrated the Kappalottam after taking 3 day abstinence and one day fasting.

The models of "Church" and "Kalkurishu" were made to bring back the old memories of the typical "Palli Perunnal". It also helped the new generation to experience a Palli Perunnal, as it is done back in their native parish churches. Standing in front of the illuminated stage had resemblance of standing in front of a Church with perunnal celebrations. There were many stalls of balloons, food, devotional items, cloths, games etc. to add festive mood to the program.

The celebrations were conducted after 15 days continuous Bible Reading in all 15 Family Units of SMCA Abbassiya Area and 48 hours Chain Rosary by SMCA members.

The public meeting was presided over by SMCA Abbasiya Area General Convener, Mr.Shaji Nagaroor. SMCA Area Secretary, Jolly Jacob Madamana welcomed the guests and the audience. Rev. Fr. Cyriac Kottayil, Director, Family Apostolate, Changanacherry Archdiocese was the Chief Guest during the anniversary celebrations. He delivered key note message on this occasion. Rev. Fr. Mathews Kunnelpurayidom, Vicar General of the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Arabia, Rev. Fr. Mathai Madathikunnel, Vicar of St. Daniel Comboni Parish, Abbasiya were also present during the celebrations.. Felicitation messages were delivered by the ex-officios of SMCA - Jacob Pynadath (President), Bijoy Palakunnel (Gen. Secretary) and Louis Neriamparambil (Treasurer). Send-off was given to Jaison Chemmannoor, former President of SMCA, Mathew Mattathil, Headmaster of Faith Formation Classes, SMCA Abbasiya Area, Mathew Devasia Kochuthazhathu and Georgekutty Vettikkattu - all of them are leaving Kuwait for good. SMCA Area Treasurer Joshy Vallachirakaran proposed the vote of thanks.

Many people have worked hard for the grand success of the anniversary celebrations - especially 45 committee members and 15 Family Unit Leaders of SMCA Abbassiya Area. For the construction of the models of "Church", "Kappal" and "Kalkurishu" many have worked for almost a month including people outside SMCA without any monetary benefit. The names of the following persons to be mentioned specially in this regard - Joshy Kuttappassery, Nideesh Thekkedath, Jomon Ethithara, Thomas Pazhoor, Benny Chakkalackal, and Saji Abraham. The subcommittee leaders - Roy Cherian, Jaison Kumbuckal & Seby Kanyakuzhiyil also led for the arrangements of their teams perfectly.

Thomas Kinganamchira, Gigy Parakkadan, Sunil Rappuzha, Wilson Chirayathu, Prinson Ambookkan, Bejoy Kelmparambil, Paul Paikkattu, Christopher Thekkanath, Anil Appacheril, Bijoy Palakunnel, Thomas Kuruvila, Shaji Mankuzhikary, Titto Thannickal, Joby Mattathil, Johny Nazaralla, Saiju Mulakuppadam, Binu Gregory, Rajesh Koothrappally, Joseph Valliara, Sonymon Thazhamadathil, Sabu Mathew, Varghese Kaniamparambil, Sijo Arolichalil, Pradeep Anchil, Rajeev Kalleli, Raju Vadakkan, Binu Jossy and many more have also supported the program in different levels.
