Fiesta of fun and frolic at ICSK 9th Mega Carnival

The slightly chilly morning of Friday 20th January, 2012 saw the grounds of The Indian Community School filled with the home sick diaspora of Indians in Kuwait. It was the day of the 9th Mega Carnival organized every year not only for the fun and frolic, but also as a community event, to bring the big family of ICSK together at a common venue, Senior School, Salmiya ….. This year the Chief Guest was Hon’ble, Mr. Kodikkunnil Suresh, the 5th time Member of Parliament from the Lok Sabha. He was given a warm welcome, in a traditional ceremony, complete with aarti, tilak and garland. The inauguration ceremony began with the verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthems of Kuwait and India. The Marching Band presented their awesome performance, just an indication of what was yet to follow. The carnival parade led by the Carnival King and revelers was one of its kinds. The float bringing them in was an example of artistic innovation. The participants of the parade were dressed to suit the occasion of fun and festivities.

Mr. Rajan Daniel, Hon. Secretary presented the welcome address during which he enumerated the highlights of Mr. Suresh’s illustrious political career. Bouquets were presented to the Chief Guest, Mr. Dinesh Kamath, Hon. Treasurer, Hon. Jt. Secretaries Mr. Francis Machado, Mr. Vijay Karayil, Parent representatives, Mr. Ajay Kumar and Mr. Regi Mathew. Chief Guest Mr. Kodikunnil Suresh released the carnival souvenir and handed over the first copy to Mr. Dinesh Kamath, Hon. Treasurer. The members of the school band were awarded trophies for their dazzling display. There were awards for the top five entries in the school website, which included the senior Hindi teacher Mrs. G. K. Maini, Senior School, Salmiya. In his inaugural address MP, Mr. Suresh lauded the efforts of the school management in organizing the carnival and complimented the noble cause behind holding the show. He encouraged the parents and students to extend their wholehearted cooperation to make the school achieve greater success in academics and other school related programs.

The people who thronged the school grounds had a wondrous day with a variety of activities to do and an assortment of stalls from where they could buy innumerable things from costume jewelry to mouth watering snacks. Junior students put up a mesmerizing fusion number, which cast a magic spell on the gathering. Amman singers made the crowd dance to the latest hit songs of Bollywood. Khaitan dancers took the audience to the land of Punjab with their energetic Bhangra, while the Western and Hindi mix number sent the crowd into raptures. The youngsters had their choice of henna, tattoos, face painting and hair colouring, games of luck and skills, while the couples could find out much to everyone’s glee if they were made for each other in the Jodi No. 1 contest. There was live entertainment with the DJ and the tambola which kept the crowd thoroughly entertained. For the first time in Kuwait, there was the laser show coupled with breath taking illusions. The jewel in the crown was the Raffle Draw at the end of the day with enticing bumper prizes! All in all the day was a highly spirited one that was enjoyed by one and all. Mr. Archie Menezes, Hon. Vice Chairman expressed his deep appreciation for the organizers and participants of the event in his closing remarks. Mr. Vijay Karayil, Hon.Jt Secretary proposed the vote of thanks. The 9th ICSK Mega Carnival was yet another stupendous success which makes it the most awaited event of the year for all ICSKians.
