Republic Day is the name of a public holiday in several countries to commemorate the day when they first became republics. Some of these are former Commonwealth realms, in which the British monarch was head of state until the change of status. Although India obtained its independence on August 15, 1947, the Constitution of India came into effect only on January 26, 1950. During the transition period from 1947 to 1950, King George VI was the head of state. Lord Mountbatten and C. Rajagopalachari served as the Governors-General of India during this period. Following January 26, 1950, Rajendra Prasad was elected as the first president of India. The Constitution of India was formally adopted by the Parliament, and India declared itself as a "Republic" on January 26, 1950, a date thereafter celebrated annually as Republic Day in India. The Constitution had been prepared by the Constituent Assembly which was set up upon India gaining its independence from the British in 1947. This, in fact, was a deliberate act: the 26th of January was initially India's "Independence Day", one of Mahatma Gandhi's many symbolic acts during India's Freedom Struggle against the British colonial rule, and the adoption of the Constitution on this date was felt able to strengthen its initial meaning, one calling for Indians of all ages to declare their freedom from the British Raj. It is one of three annual national holidays in India, the other two being the nation's Independence Day on August 15 (since 1947) and the birthday of Mohandas K Gandhi or Mahatma Gandhi on October 2. And so, after the disposal of the Empire of India; King George VI was the last and only "King" of the modern India. To mark this occasion, a grand parade is held in New Delhi, the Capital of India, beginning from Raisina Hill near the Rashtrapati Bhavan (Presidential Palace), along the Rajpath, past India Gate and on to the historic Red Fort in the old quarter of the city. Different infantry, cavalry and mechanized r

If what we are now has been the result of our own past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in future can be produced by our present actions. So we have to know how to Act. “I wish everyone was taught how India attained independence rather than being told when she attained her independence. Today, the Department of History enjoys very little status for the very reason that all desire to pursue only that study which would land them in gainful employment. Oh, Mother India! My only prayer to you is – Rise up with the support of your spiritual power! While blessing the Indians with high intellect why have you made them spineless? Through devotion, worship and love bring them together who now stand divided in the name of religion, caste and language. You should lead the whole world.

Mr Javed, We understand your feeling. Why do you blame us and our comments? What do you mean by great work? 1) Is it opening our prime minister’s mouth? 2) Is it kicking the ass of all corrupting leaders, tying their hands and legs and throwing away to Indian Ocean? 3) Is it shooting all the sponsors of communal violence? I think whoever commented here and whoever not commented may be one or another way, the part of any social activities. Social service or activities never mean joining any particular organization and showing off to the public. It is sincere service in any form. It may be even helping an illiterate to fill up an application form. It may be guiding a stranger to the right place. Even pleasant behavior and sound words are enough to please others. Social service or great work what you say is not supposed to be only in terms of money or publicity. In addition to that, don’t worry about Indian Team. Indian Team had undergone many crucial situations in the past also. Even after all the crises and uncertainty, our team won the last Cricket World Cup. How many of us were able to think of it? Above all, Indian Cricket Team is no way affecting Indian economy and to be frank it has got very less influence in Indian economy. And at last but not least, slogans are not useless. Slogan makes the man energetic and positive. ‘An idea can change your life’ is not just for joking with the public but for leaving a message to the public thru the advertisement. We need good ideas and plans not in paper but in practice.

Looks like most of the comments are from slogan shouters. This slogan shouting epidemic must be eradicated ASAP. We tend to shout slogan, without caring for its content. Slogans don't make a country great, great work and good thinking make one. e.g of our slogan shouting The indian cricket team take some early wickets in the 4th test, immediately we start praising Shewag's captaincy and show Dhoni in bad light.Within no time Australian pull off and trash our blowers. The slogan are gone with the wind. Stop this herd mentallity and grow up. Proud Indian

I am not against Patriotic's idea that Indians should buy Indian products. I am happy if it is practiced by everybody. But, my question is why these products are not able to attract Indians. Why do Indians prefer foreign products? Why don’t these Indian companies think of changing their products to an equivalent standard of foreign products?
Your message confers that Indians are potential to buy whereas Indian companies are not capable of satisfying them. People are not interested in buying anything by its origin. Everybody looks at its quality and affordability.
Let Indian companies find a solution to attain the market through innovative ideas instead of requesting people to substitute foreign products. Forget about the quality and affordability, even the designs or the coverings of Indians products are not attractive. We built TajMahal and made it one among the seven wonders and we are not able to create beautiful designs for small products.
I have seen this message many times and whenever I reach hypermarkets, I used to forget it and select the products according to its standard that is convincing to me. This may happen to many others also. Then, what is the impact of this campaign?
We have constraints everywhere like save a tree, save petrol, save water, save sand and many more. We save all these and foreigners consume all these without looking at notice boards. Income Tax is the ever curse over Indians preventing or slowing down everywhere. This is the bullshit over Indians after British.
