Jay George Posted on Sunday, August 14, 2011 Although every Independence Day is to remember the valuable sacrifices of India's past leaders who fought for its freedom, we cannot remain complacent with our achievements. The passing of the controversial "Lokpal Bill" is an important step in ensuring honesty and transparency in the government. While millions of crores of rupees are siphoned off in the collusion between politicians and the industry,it is high time we reviewed the integrity of our current and future leaders. Imagine if the same amount of money is devoted to social upliftment causes of the poor and underprevileged, we could wipe out poverty and hunger from the sub-continent. It is also time the government takes serous steps to address the Maoist threat which is perhaps the gravest internal problems that the country has faced since its first independence. Jai Hind !
