Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and the holy month of fasting and prayer for the Muslims. It begins and ends with the appearance of the crescent moon. During this month the Muslims fast from dawn till dusk. The meal they have before the crack of dawn is known as ‘suhoor’ and the meal eaten to break the fast at sunset is known as ‘iftar’. Below are some special and delicious iftar dishes:

Enna Pathiri – Malabar Fried Pathiri

Malabar is a land of diverse cuisines. Poricha Pathiri or Enna Pathiri is one of the main breakfast dishes in Malabar households. The method of preparation becomes different in various areas of Malabar. Traditionally, the 4-5 hours soaked rice is grind along with grated coconut, shallots, cumin seeds and salt. Then, circular pancakes known as pathiri is rolled out from this dough. Sometimes, rice flour is used as a substitute for rice. The pathiris are then fried in oil and served with hot drinks or curry.

Malabar Special Egg Box Recipe – Egg Box Recipe

Next is a very easy snack with eggs – Egg Box. Egg Box or Mutta Petti is a very tasty Malabar snack. It requires less ingredients for preparation. Firstly make a simple masala using Egg, onion, green chili and some spices. Then wrap this egg masala with two samosa sheets (you can make sheet using flour) and fry. The outer crispy layer and the spicy egg filling makes this recipe scrumptious. This is one of the most popular recipes for Iftar in the Malabar region.

Ramadan special Musk Melon Smoothie

A proper Iftar meal also requires sweet and healthy drinks. Muskmelon smoothie is a simple and refreshing Iftar drink recipe prepared by few ingredients. It is made using milk, dates, honey, dried fruits and chia seeds. Musk Melon is a healthy fruit and a rich source of nutrients. Moreover it contains huge percentage of water content. It is very good for the summer season and keeps your body hydrated. Musk melon provides many health benefits like a boost to your immunity system, improvement in vision, stronger bones etc.

Chicken Stew Recipe – Kerala Style Chicken Stew Recipe for Ramadan.

We can make many variety dishes with chicken. It includes everything from curries to snacks. This next recipe is an authentic Kerala style chicken stew. This recipe is rich with the flavours of cinnamon, cardamom, coconut milk and the spiciness of pepper and can be served as a part of Iftar meals along with flatbreads like appam, chappathi, or porotta. It is a delicious dish prepared using chicken, vegetables, spices and coconut milk. The mild sweet and spicy flavour makes this recipe appetizing.

Ramadan Special Snack for Iftar-Chicken Pola

Chicken Pola is one of the super delicious Iftar dish from Malabar. Spicy chicken masala and egg mixture gives authentic taste to this dish. You can serve this as a snack, starter or Iftar Dish for Ramadan. Pola is a traditional Malabar dish, which is similar to cake, but made without an oven. It can be sweet or savory. You can make a wide variety of Pola using eggs, bread, banana, apples, meat etc. It is a simple snack prepared with chicken and egg. We can prepare it very quickly and with the simple ingredients available at home.
